Sightseeing

From the Head of the Sightseeing Section - written by Tatsuki Miyataka

On August 1st, you can go sightseeing. You will move with your sightseeing group (which will differ from your Table Discussion group) all day long, and spend time eating these places' specialties and becoming closer in touch with various Japanese cultures. Above all, we can deepen our friendship by spending a whole day with our groups.

In this program, please choose one group from the three listed below. Please remember you have to pay the transportation fee.

1. Osaka

Osaka is the center of place of economy, business and culture of western Japan. You can eat many delicious foods such as Takoyaki and Okonomiyaki... Also, people in Osaka are more funny than in Tokyo. So, you can find different cultures from that of Tokyo. Osaka has two major city centers: Minami ("South") and Kita ("North"). Minami is the city's most famous shopping and entertainment district. There are Doutonbori (“¹“Ú–x) that is one of Osaka's most popular tourist destinations. It is known as a very famous food destination. Also, Kita is Osaka's busiest transportation hub and a bustling business district, and offers an abundance of shopping, dining, and lodging.

2. Kyoto

Kyoto has been a tourist destination even before the Edo Era. Kyoto was Japan's capital and the emperor's residence from the year 794 to 1868. It is now the country's seventh largest city with a population of 1.4 million people and a modern face.
Also, Kyoto has many historical spots. It is the home of many shrines and temples (they are different from those of China) and 17 of them are registered as world culture heritage. So, it is one of the best preserved cities in Japan. One of the most famous cities of Kyoto is Gion(‹_‰€). This city attracts tourists with its high concentration of traditional wooden merchant houses. With a bit of luck, it is possible to see the maiko there.

3. Universal Studio Japan
